How to get out of ELO Hell!
(Pronounced Ee-low, not Ee-EL-OH, named after the inventor of the rating system, it’s his last name)

I feel like I am a good player to write this guide, do to the fact that ive been in ELO hell. Clyde, Darknez, Kriticalkill, etc. are all good, they have raw skill as well as the knowledge and never really saw ELO hell except at the very start when they started Solo Q. People stuck in ELO hell don’t have the stupid amount of skill to just rambo through it like they (Top players) do. This is why I believe I can be of service, I was down to just above 800 elo (like 813 i think), and was able to pull myself out up to 1350 elo in a relatively short time, with very little duo queueing (so no, i wasnt carried). I don’t play Solo Q much anymore, duo queued with a RL friend after he got a new comp, played a bunch of games in one night, lost em all, and simply havent played since, so im 1240 atm. I also simply don’t have the patience to NOT rage like I should in Solo Q, I was able to hold back the rage to gain around 550 rating, and prove to myself that I could do it.

So, you think you're in ELO Hell, whatever it is, 800 elo, 1200 elo, w/e, there's a way to get out. My intention with this guide is to give you the help you need to get bust out of whatever plateau you're at, skill aside. Because the end all is i can give u the tips and tricks to enhance your game, but you'll eventually hit a wall where your skill needs to increase or you'll hit yet another plateau. But many people have the skill to be much higher, but they’re overlooking key points to attain said higher elo. So lets delve into what can help you raise your ELO!

Attitude:

Often overlooked when Solo qing, but if you bitch during champion select at their picks, then at laning situations, if a teamate gives up first blood, etc. and you just bitch at them, rage, etc. you wont be helping anything at all. Infact you will ruin team morale, lower team cohesion during team fights, ganks, etc, and have argumentative teamates concentrating on chat rather then the game.
Solution-
Dont bitch/rage about peoples picks, if you're in the sub 1400 elo, picks and team comp dont matter really, teamwork and player skill generally is what wins matches at this point. If you want mid, and another guy wants mid, you both go, and he wont leave, dont be a douche and sit mid as well, just be the bigger man and go bot/top, gives the team a better overall chance if theres only 1 mid. Finally if your team is giving up first blood, feeding a lane, etc. dont flip ur shit on em, call em a feeder (even though they are). Just politely talk to them, attempt to help them out, tell them you'll do what you can to help their lane. Talking to them can be as simple as "Just hang back by the tower, stand behind creeps to avoid skill shots, play safe, better to at least get xp and no CS then die, feed, and get behind in levels."

Side note, some players will have a horrible attitude and will be incredibly negative. Do not fall for this and get sucked into their game, immediately put them on ignore, you need to concentrate on the game, not some troll messing with you head.

Champion Selection

To put it simply, if you want to win a game, chances are you'll need to carry it. Carrying means more or less not playing a support champ, or tank. Why? Because, u can tank all day long, and support like nobodies business, but simply put, if you're tanking for/supporting retards who cants deal damage, who have bad positioning, they wont kill the other team, and u dont have the damage as a tank/support to kill the team yourself. Therefor, prepare to play an AD carry, AP nuker, offtank, or jungler. Ex. of each -

AD Carry - Cait, Ashe, MF, Vayne, Corki etc.
AP Nuker - Annie, Brand, Anivia, Kass, Vlad, etc.
Offtank - Renekton, Xin, Olaf, Irelia, etc.
Jungler - (some offtank/junglers overlap) Warwick, Udyr, Noct, Trundle
There are many champs that don’t fall neatly into a type, but are still viable, such as – Alistar (good with a partner whos carrying), TF (AP or AD), Teemo (Atk speed proc), Singed (able to do a lot of dmg while still tanking)

To keep up one what some of the top players in the world consider good picks you can check out this site:
http://rog.clgaming.net/tier-lists/44-solo-queue/latest

Also when choosing champions, remember a few things. First being, crowd control (CC) can win games. If you're team is full of CC out the ass, while still being viable with tank/dmg, skill levels equal between teams, CC team has the advantage. CC you should prioritize is Stuns, roots, and displacements (singed fling, blitz grab, trist knockback, lee sin knockback, etc.) Second, if you're team is mostly AP, and ur best champ is an AP, go with you're best AD champ, otherwise other team will just buy a Merc Treads, Banshees veil and Force of nature and /lol as they walk through you're team cause youre damage is all AP and generally AP comes with crowd control which BV and MT's will negate/diminsh greatly. But just remember to play champs you are comfortable with. That means not playing the brand new champ that came out yesterday in ranked, or a champ that you want to try out that is free for the week. Do that in a normal game.

Queueing and Laning:

So, you have been practicing with some champs that can carry a game decently well, and you’re now confident in going into ranked. If you decided to take jungling as your route to carry, I suggest highly that you have a duo queue setup, and that you duo queue buddy gets a solo lane. Make sure you do this, or as ive found out many times, you can get screwed. Laners love to blame the jungle on their problems. If they get ganked, its on you cause you werent there the exact moment to save them. If their lane is getting pushed, its your fault for not saving the lane, etc. Blame aside, cause people can blame you for anything, a real issue as jungling, is ganking lanes that push hard. Whether it’s a mord just spamming skills, or an auto atking ashe, I garauntee you’ll have the lanes that are always pushed to their tower. This doesn’t allow for easy ganks, its also over extends them and allows them to be ganked, neither being good. Try to talk to them into last hitting. The other main problem is multiple lanes getting dominated at once. Its ok if one lane is getting dominated, you can cover it, but two, that’s gonna be loss of towers. For this reason, junglers arent the best carries, but with a duo queue, can be very handy with cordinated ganks on the duo partners lane.

Jungling aside, make sure if u are duo queueing, that at least one of you gets a solo lane, absolutely mandatory. Not always possible to get two, if nobody else picks a jungler, and neither of you do. You can try roaming, but not all champs are good at roaming. Just make sure you get carry champs, and solo lanes.

Game Time! / General:

Now, you have your solo lane, ward that damn thing! Make sure to have wards up nearly all the time during laning phase, and key points after laning phase. Its essential for the fact that junglers will try to gank you, other lanes may try to gank you, and with a ward, you can both have a better chance to escape, as well as be able to attack the opposing champs in your lane without fear of counter attack from river.

Here's a pic with points to wards at (grabbed from another guide, Green = standard, Red = Situational, Black = Fancy spots)

Boom, got that ward down, couple more in the inventory for when it fades (if ur melee, and some ranged, wriggles is a free ward for the entire game, might be useful). Now you need to concentrate on your lane and getting money. Early game, last hitting is priority in this ELO. Top players can last hit and harass etc. at the same time. You’re in ELO hell, you should be concentrating on pretty much purely last hitting mobs, and only harassing when they’re over extended, out of place, or a gank is coming from jungler/another lane. To clarify, Last hitting is not auto atking creeps, but waiting until the creeps themselves put each other at a hp low enough to only hit them once, and get the gold from it. Auto atking creeps will yield far less gold, and will push your lane, leaving you over extended, and open to be ganked, none of which is good. If you are unable to last hit well, I suggest you play normal and practice it up. Some champs make last hitting Ezmode, i.e. annie, whos disintegrate refunds her mana used when it kills a target, or Nasus whos siphoning strike gets more powerful each last hit, etc.

Simple Video on how lasts hitting works, and helps:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3nqyzQo2rk&feature=related

Ok, so you’re warded and last hitting like a pro, now attempt to cordinate with your team, especially your jungler (assuming you have one), its gank time. If you do have a jungler, try to get him involved in ganks as much as possible, it will help both of you greatly, towers can get dropped, and can severely hurt the other team by starving the opposing champ/s in your lane by be dead. Try to pick out the decent players on your team asap, and cooperate with them as much as possible. If a feeder isnt listening to you try to help (not rage right?), don’t attempt to cooperate with them as much, they’re clearly bad, or having a bad game, and are stubborn/ a troll. Do the opposite for the other team as well, try to pick out the bad players on their team, and focus on feeding off them early to get as big of an advantage as possible.

Never expect your team to be good, assume they are all bad (although don’t talk down to them, just don’t rely on them). Simply don’t assume they will play correctly. You will have rammus’s on ur team that initiate fights at 50% hp against 3 guys when you’re the only one around. Unless you both are fed to high hell, don’t engage with him. Its times like this that will decide whether u can carry or not. If you go in, and die, you just gave them 300g and made it that much harder to carry. Same goes for suiciding for kills, you may get a kill, but so do they, ur dead now also, which means ur not getting creep kills. So really, ur not getting ahead at all, contrary to what u may think.

Another point to mention is a lot of people play poorly after a loss. Something that may help is take a short (or long) break from the game. Go get something to eat, take a shit, rub one out (cause none of us have GF’s amirite?), then come back optimistic about the next game. If you lose two or three in a row, maybe take the rest of the night off and try again tomorrow.

You now have some basic knowledge to better your gameplay. No, you wont win every game if you do everything I said, you will still have teams that are uncarriable, leavers, afkers, etc. That is inevitable, but what you can do is give urself the push to win those few games here and there that will get u out of the rating bracket you’re stuck in. (I.e. if you were winning 5 for every 5 lost, you’re stuck, not moving up or down. But if you can change just one of those losses into a win, you’re now winning 6 for every 4 lost, and that’s approx 25-30 rating every ten games. No its not huge, but it will slowly get you out. But if you werent doing any of what I said in this guide, results could be more drastice, 7-3, 8-2, etc. Given like I said, you’ll eventually level out again, but it will be in a new higher rating bracket.

Thank you for reading my guide, and I hope it helped you. I know its not flashy, but the info is good, and thats honestly whats most important.
