Shen is potentially the best tank in League of Legends, he has an AoE taunt, great for ganking and or getting people off your carries, also he has a shield with a very low cool down, which allows you to block incoming damage frequently. Lets not forget his Ultimate, which allows him to shield an ally absorbing a nice amount of damage.

The Summoner abilities I prefer are as followed:
Ghost
Teleport
The runes I prefer to use are as followed:
Greater Glyph of Celerity
Greater Seal of Vitality
Greater Mark of Resilience
Greater Quintessence of Fortitude

The Masteries I prefer to use are as followed:

The reason is because if your soloing your going to want to level faster, especially as Shen, the sooner you get your Ultimate the better. The reason for buff mastery is because, if you can get the blue buff, it will increase your energy regeneration, as well as your CDR. As far as the Defense masteries go, those are standard tanking masteries in my eyes.

Items, are situational for tanks every game, but this is the standard item build I use with Shen.


I start with regrowth pendent, then by the time I recall I usually have enough for health crystal, and boots. I usually get Warmogs first, and then get FoN. Your item build should be purely based off of the enemy team.

Laning.

When you solo with shen you can either get your Q or your W first. I usually get my Q first because it makes last hitting minions a lot easier. You can decide on if your going to play aggressive or defensively based off of who your laning against. Once you reach level 6 watch your mini-map in case your team needs an Ultimate!

Tips.
Leveling your Q first will allow you to creep easier.
Leveling your W first will allow you to lane longer by absorbing incoming attacks.
Get a point into your E at level four or five. ( It is a very nice escape or Initiate ability. )

Three things.

1. I'm confused... Why do you only have 3 items in your build? I think to improve this guide you should include some more general tank items like Randuins/Sunfire/Banshees.

2. Also, along with the items I don't really like Warmogs on him. He isn't the greatest farmer so some of the worth is lost on him.

3. You should include what the runes do. Most people aren't familiar with them just by their names.

As i Said items for tanks are situational.

and he can farm fine. also assists give you stacks

they can go to the website and look them up

how is shen not a solid farmer? I can easily end most games played as shen with highest creep count. His q ability is insanely good for farming especially early game when you'r eletting them push to your turrets
