--- Anivia, The Cryophoenix ---

History:

In most lore, the phoenix is a creature of fire that rises from its own ashes. What few know, however, is that phoenixes are elemental beings, formed by the eternal essences of their native world. Anivia was conceived on a world such as this - a being of the coldest winter, a creature of pure elemental ice. On her world, Anivia was the protector of the frozen wastes and all those with the spirit to endure in such unforgiving places. She was consulted as a creature of great wisdom, one who could not die and who had seen the world renewed several times. Somehow, Anivia knew that the day would come when would be plucked from her home and pulled across worlds, and when that day came, she received the call with grace. Seeing the imbalance and injustice on Runeterra, a world lacking elemental protectors, Anivia took residence at the League of Legends.

Anivia is an immortal being of intense power. She can instantly freeze a path in front of her, covering all in its wake with thick frost - she can even force the cold to violently explode, throwing razor sharp ice shards in every direction. She can also concentrate this ability on a single enemy, riddling his flesh with deep frostbite. The cryophoenix can also summon a glacial storm, a blizzard of terrible fury that both harms and slows those within. When defense is needed, Anivia can create an impassible barrier of ice. Furthermore, Anivia can never die. Whenever she is killed, she simply transforms into an egg, waiting to be reborn.

Some say the world will end in fire, some in ice. Anivia awaits the inevitable latter.

Stats:

Damage------------48 (+3.2 / per level)
Health--------------350 (+70 / per level)
Mana --------------257 (+53 / per level)
Move Speed ------300
Armor -------------10.5 (+4 / per level)
Magic Resist-------30 (+0 / per level)
Health Regen -----0.93 (+0.07 / per level)
Mana Regen ------0.9 (+0.12 / per level)

Abilitys:

Rebirth (Passive):
Upon dying, Anivia will revert into an egg. If the egg can survive for six seconds, she is gloriously reborn.

Flash Frost (Spell 1):
Anivia brings her wings together and summons a sphere of ice that flies towards her opponents, chilling and damaging anyone in its path. When the lance explodes it does moderate damage in a radius, stunning anyone in the area.

Crystallize (Spell 2):
Anivia condenses the moisture in the air into an impenetrable wall of ice to block the movement of her enemies. The wall only lasts a short duration before it melts.

Frostbite (Spell 3):
With a flap of her wings, Anivia blasts a freezing gust of wind at her target, dealing a medium amount of damage. If the target has been slowed by an ice effect, the damage they take is doubled.

Glacial Storm (Ultimate):
Anivia summons a driving rain of ice and hail to damage her enemies and slow their advance.

Presentation of the Guide and
my Build and Thoughts of Anivia:

Hello dear jsp users, and dear League of Legends players. So this will be a normal guide of how to play
Anivia, and what items to buy, a lot of facts and more of course :)

Anivia is a favourite hero of mine, I really like her unique style and she is a good mage
in the League of Legends arena! In this part of the guide I will as the
header says, present Anivia and the guide and what I think about her, and her spells and so on.

About her Spells: Anivia's passive spell can be both the worst and
the best passive in the game depending on how it is used. If you don't know how to use it, have a
bad team and so on, you will not have much benefit of it. But if you instead have a good clue when
and where to die and not to die with it, and also got a good team, you will be able to score many games
with zero deaths (or at least keep them very low).

Her first spell, her stun ball, a very nice spell, and again, if you can use it.
Same goes for her second spell, the wall.
While I think her third spell and Ultimate (fourth spell) is kinda easy to use :]

My Build: My build is just a standard Build of Anivia imo, with
maybe some focus on much ability power and much health and survival.

Items Suggestion and Explanation:

Every section/number below is showing in what order you should get the items, but not the exact order.
For example on point number 2, "Boots of Speed + Mejais Soulstealer + Tear of Goddess", you could get
Boots first then ToG and last Mejais. Or buy them all at once at the same time. So its not an exact order
how to buy items, the order is only buy "step 1" items first then "step 2" items, but the items in step 2, you
chose the order yourself.
GPI = Game Depending Item, a item needed for just that game. Void Staff in this case.

1 Dorans Ring + Health Potion
2 Boots of Speed + Mejais Soulstealer + Tear of Goddess
3 Boots of Mobility + Catalyst the Protector
4 Rod of Ages + Start of GPI (Blasting Wand)
5 Archangel Staff + Finish GPI Void Staff
6 Sell Start Item (Dorans Ring) Buy Zhonyas Ring

This is a standard Build of Anivia when I play her.
Why this build?
I love Dorans Ring , more hp in start, mana reg, and a bit ap.
Makes perfect with my hp per/ lvl runes. Or you could go mana crystal and 2 health potions
this is specially good if you got hp quintessence runes.
Mejais Soulstealer is obvious, if a game seems to go well in start I just buy it,
otherwise not. If you want it when you play, buy it!
Tear of Goddess, I buy early to stack it up, and because I need the mana
and mana regen. The reasons why I not buy archangel staff direct is, first I dont
think its that good/necessary before you stack up some mana with tear of goddess before.
Second, you dont even need full archangel staff in early/mid game. And third, since
you need complete boots, mejais, and RoA asap, you wanna buy these things before.

I go Boots of Mobility because Anivia is very slow (she was slowest hero of all before),
so I think those are needed, and they are my personal favourite boots. Magic pen boots
also works, but then you will be kinda slow.

Rod of Ages is one of the best (if not the best) item to Anivia, 80 ap (standard but nice)
over 600 life and over 700 mana. All of this Anivia needs.
Archangel Staff because now you have stacked up Tear of Goddess, so Archangel Staff will give nice bonus ap.
Zhonyas Ring as ending item because we want mass of ability power.

------------------------------------------------

If you would face many ad heroes, your build could look like this:

1 Dorans Ring + Health Potion
2 Boots of Speed + Mejais Soulstealer + Tear of Goddess
3 Boots of Mobility + Catalyst the Protector
4 Rod of Ages + Glacial Shroud
5 Archangel Staff + GPI Frozen Heart
6 Sell Start Item (Dorans Ring) Buy Zhonyas Ring

Why Frozen Heart?
Gives A LOT of armor, and A LOT of mana, and cooldown reduction.
Which is perfect for Anivia if she face very many ad heroes.

------------------------------------------------

If you would face many ap heroes, your build could look like this:

1 Dorans Ring + Health Potion
2 Boots of Speed + Mejais Soulstealer + Tear of Goddess
3 Boots of Mobility + Catalyst the Protector
4 Rod of Ages + Blasting Wand (or Negatron Cloak)
5 Archangel Staff + GPI Abyssal Scepter
6 Sell Start Item (Dorans Ring) Buy Zhonyas Ring

Why Abyssal Scepter?
Perfect Mage vs Mage item imo, gives you ap (deal more damage), gives you magic resist (take less dmg)
and gives you magic penetration (do even more damage). Very good item.

------------------------------------------------

If you would face many tanks or just normal hp heroes but
who got a lot of Magic Resist, your build could look like this:

1 Dorans Ring + Health Potion
2 Boots of Speed + Mejais Soulstealer + Tear of Goddess
3 Sorcerer's Shoes + Catalyst the Protector
4 Rod of Ages + GPI Void Staff
5 Archangel Staff +

Why Sorcerer's Shoes and Void Staff?
Sorcerer's Shoes has flat magic penetration which is good if you play versus those who got much magic res.
Void staff is petty obvious, if a enemy champion has very much magic resist, % penetration is
better than flat penetration, but best of course with both.
If you have both these items, and also magic penetration in runes and masteries you should be fine.

Why not Deathfire Grasp?
Well its good ONLY if it its a tank, and he got like mass armor and no magic resist.
But if he buy magic resist you Deathfire Grasp will suck and just do a few hundred damage at best.
Then can you instead just do one of your own spells who will probably take more damage
and have way less cooldown.

------------------------------------------------

Which items suits Anivia well and why?

Some items I think is a MUST for Anivia:

Rod of Ages - Why? Its one of the best items for Anivia. It gives good ability power,
very nice health, and very nice mana. Why not Ryalis Scepter? Well first of all, I think RoA
is a better item overall, specially since its last buff. Also since Anivia have mass of slows and
she really needs the mana (while Ryalis give nothing) and the extra health (RoA gives more health than Ryali)
then Rod of Ages is definitely a better choice then Rylais Scepter.

Archangel Staff - If you don't have like thousands of mana regen runes and stuff you will really need
this one, because Anivia is very many hungry. Also its better to skip mana regen runes and buy magic pen,
cooldown reduction, and health imo. Arachangel staff will give you good mana pool and good mana regen.
And with the mana buff you can easy "stack up" your tear of goddess before you upgrade it to archangel staff.

Items that are GOOD for Anivia, but not a must:

Mejais Soulstealer: This one is very good for stacking much ability power.
And since you should survive a lot with Anivia this could be a good item. In a good game
you will get both many assists and kills.
But if you are not used to Anivia or having a bad game, do not buy this item.

Zhonyas Ring: Gives VERY much ap, and also 25% total more, which is very nice,
this is not a must-have item, but its still very nice. And its active can be nice sometimes.

Summoner Spells:

Im gonna write about the Summoner Spells, what I think of them.
Spells who suits Anivia and not.

Good and Recommended Spells:
  • Ghost - A very nice spell for Anivia, perfect for hunting or fleeing, and since you are slow hero, you want this to hunt and flee with!
  • Flash - Also a nice spell, quick dodge ashe ulti mayne or jump over a cliff. Though I prefer Ghost! (Specially now when Flash is nerfed and not op anymore)
  • Ignite - Very nice damage spell, could give you some kills when "Oh no they run away with 100-200 hp and cooldown on spells" IGNITE! Or versus Mundos ultimate or reduce their heal. (Or Firstblood).
  • Teleport - Not a bad spell at all, if you are lazy running to your lane, or if you gonna save a tower from a massive creep wave, or if you dont wanna miss a single exp in your lane, this is a nice spell. Or too quickly rejoin the push on the enemy base!

Working Spells:
  • Heal - Also a nice spell, could save you from a death, could also save a team mate! But imo egg is enough and I dont think heal fits on Anivia really, so I put this on working spells instead of recommended.
  • Cleanse - Another nice spell, though I dont think this one fits on Anivia either. Anivia has her egg, and her own stuns, slows, and her wall to stop the enemy to stun/disable her in the first place. Working spell but not recommended.
  • Clairvoyance - A pretty nice support spell, Anivia is kinda supporty, but not the best spell on her, still nice to check dragon or nashor, or check bush for an enemy gank or something.

Bad Spells:
  • Exhaust - Not needed at all imo, since (as said) Anivia has so many disables for her enemies. To take out the enemy carry then it is good to have an exhaust spell on your team, but you are not the one to have it.
  • Fortify - Nice to save a turret, but imo rather teleport to a tower than and do your ultimate on the creepwave. No let the tanks take care of Fortify.
  • Revive - Very very bad spell, please never take this spell if you are not insane bad at this game or if your intention is to feed your enemy team. + As said, you already have your egg, its a revive but with no death count.
  • Smite - Anivia is a extremely good creeper, so dont use this spell.
  • Rally - No need for attack damage when not even ad heroes use it your spell hero absolutely wont need it.
  • Clarity - This spell I personally do not like at all, you should never need this spell except a few minutes in early game. With your masteries, and contingent mana-runes, and your gear (tear of goddess) you wont need this at all, never ever.
The reason I have put this in bad spells is because it sucks, give a few hundred mana, but you do no get a bigger mana pool, not more mana regen, and this spell sucks mid-end game, and then you wont even need it.
I can accept this if you are a very low leveled Summoner and dont get so much mana from runes/masteries, and because it gives a bit mana to you teammates aswell, otherwise, no no no!

My Own Choice of Summoner Spells and Why? Also My Own Recommendation:
I recommend most Ghost, Flash, Ignite, Teleport, while I myself almost always use Ghost + Ignite.
Ofc depends on what rest of team have, and if I play with my mates and what spells they have.
If no one have Teleport I maybe pick it for example.

Masteries:

Masteries is no strange business! I go for standard 9/0/21

Offensive Masteries:
Deadliness = 0,66% extra crit chance! Only reason for this is so we can pick Sorcery
Archmage's Savvy = Some extra ap, is nice.We pick this because its nice and so we can pick Sorcery
Sorcery = Extra cooldown reduction is nice!
Archaic Knowledge = Your magical spells penetrate 15% of targets magic armor, this one is very nice.

Utility Masteries:
Peserverence - Really nice mastery imo which give you mana and health regen.
Haste - Use this one if you use the Summoner Spell Ghost! Will improve your ghost.
Expanded Mind - I dont want or need the experience mastery, and a bit more mana is nice, so I pick this one.
Greed - 1 gold per 10 sec, I only take this one because I dont need any other mastery
Meditation - 1 mana reg per sec, okay, nothing special but better than some other masteries.
Utility Mastery - Really nice mastery, super if you going for mana buff or you kill an enemy who has a buff.
Quickness - Increase movement speed by 3%, Anivia is slow, so this is a nice mastery for her.
Intelligence - More cooldown reduction, very nice.
Presence of the Master - Lower the cooldown redcution on your summoner spells by 15%, is nice!

Runes / Runepage:

My Runes and Why:

You can see all runes above that I use, only thing Im gonna switch out is my mana regen
to cooldown recduction instead.
Mark Runes = I use Magic Penetration because its really nice, and sometimes I dont buy
so much of it ingame, so its needed here in my runes instead.
Seal Runes = More mana regen per level, nice to have.
Glyph Runes = Cooldown reduction is nice, combined with masteries
and buff you will have max cooldown reduction endgame.
Quintessence = Here I got hp per level, I like them, flat hp works aswell.

How To Play Anivia:

I play her pretty aggressive, and mostly it works nice. Just remember your egg,
its an imporant part of Anivia. If you are at lane for example, if you know you are gonna
die any second, try to die as close to your own tower as possible for a safe rebirth.
And if it is later in the game, you need to die at "safe" places in a team fight,
for example not in the middle of enemy galios ultimate, where you will be killed
easy by galio and his team-mates. And if you have a good team make sure they protect
your egg so you can gloriously reborn!

Good order to use your skills in is to start with either ulti or stun-ball depending
on the sitaution, and then continue with e, as it do more damage if the target
has been "chilled" first (which it will be of ulti or stun).
Also a nice thing is to do ulti and then wall infront of your enemy, so they
stand in your ulti, and cant run back so easily and most go around it.

How to Avoid Ganks:

If you play at mid lane, I have 7 tips to get rid of ganks on you in early game.
Of course these tips work on other lanes aswell except mid lane.
  • - First you should tell your team mates to always say miss on their lanes. (And of course remember to do so yourself aswell)
  • - And second, you should check the mini map frequently and see where enemy heroes is.
  • - And third, if you suspect that one or many enemy heroes may be in the bush waiting for
the opportunity to gank you, then shoot a stun to check (it has pretty long range).
  • - Fourth, wards! If you have great feed (creep feed or champion feed or both) you can
always spend some extra money to put out on some wards around your lane, good thing to do! Go Go Map Awareness!
  • - And fifth! If you play Anivia with Clairvoyance (or if a team mate got it) you could use this
or ask the team mate to use it where you expect the gank.
  • - If the enemy team has a jungler, a good ganker like ww (Warwick), then you should be extra
careful, and buy wards for your own safety.
  • - If you see that your enemy on the lane become very aggressive or/and rushes forward, its probably
a gank on you! Back off swiftly!

Skill Order:
  • Lvl 1 - Flash Frost
  • Lvl 2 - Frostbite
  • Lvl 3 - Flash Frost
  • Lvl 4 - Crystallize
  • Lvl 5 - Flash Frost
  • Lvl 6 - Glacial Storm
  • Lvl 7 - Flash Frost
  • Lvl 8 - Frostbite
  • Lvl 9 - Flash Frost
My skill order is max Flash Frost first, then take ultimate on every level available (6,11,16)
    then Frostbite and last Crystallize.

My Own Results and Achievements About
The Guide and About Playing as Anivia:

Here Im gonna post some printscreens of playing her, it doesnt say so much
since its only tells score and gear (which you already now) and not how I play
but thats probably enough stated in the guide.
I dont take so many print screens while I play, so the first one will be a very old
one and the second one is a pretty recent one in a ranked game.

Old = http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/1171/anivia10112.jpg
New = http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/4825/anivia2328.png

And btw I cant show print screens in the post, because max 3 pictures in a post
limit.

To Everyone Who Read My Guide:

To all who has read my guide I wanna say thanks a lot! And it would be nice to get some feedback
from other Anivia players and those who has tried out my build (or other builds). If you have any comments
or questions, please ask me here or pm me, but leave the flame please! =)
And sorry if my english isnt so good everywhere, english is only my second language.

"Ok", I usually get it lvl 2 on lvl 10 or 12. Enough imo. What do you max last then btw? And how early do you max wall?

my build for skills is

q > e > e> w > e > r > e > q > e >q > w etc.

Yeah, I also tried to have e as the one skill I max first, but for some reason max q seems way better for me at least.

Also better to creep with.

EDIT: All opinions welcome, but leave out the rage/flame/spam thanks.
