the problem is everytime i start oblivion, pc shuts down after ~3 mins ( depends on temp i guess )

cpu temp is just fine about 40-44 °C on a amd athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 5600+

my graphic card is a nvidia geforce gtx 550 ti with 1gb

2gb ram
windows xp

all drivers are installed and are working

what i tried so far:

reinstalling oblivion and windows
reinstalled drivers
installed dual core optimizer

checked the gpu temp with speedfan when im running oblivion and its about 52°C

actually this temp shouldnt be a problem since max temp of the gpu is 100°C

other games like gta4 or rainbow six: vegas 2 running without any problems ...

you got any ideas how to fix temp or how to fix pc shuts down on that temperature ?

or are there problems with that gpu at all on that game since its not supported ?

if you guys need any further information or screenshots or anything just shoot me a pm or ask here :)

if there comes up any solution wich fixes the problem there will be a reward ^^

thanks in advance and i hope you got some ideas :)

What about your power supply, that could be problem too.

Problem shouldn't be that "unsupported" GPU, if it wont support it, you wouldn't be even able to start it.
I've been playing very old games that needs some kinda GPU with my 560ti and they've worked fine.

well i get 500 watt out of the power supply and 400 watt are needed for the gpu ( well dunno how much is comming through the graphic card ... any chance to check it ? but dont think thats the problem since other games with higher requirements are working fine :/ )

my power supply is "power lc6550gp2"

There should be label attached to side of your PSU or check manufacturer's site. GPU uses 12V rails, so you need to check those. For example I had old 550w PSU, but 12v rails had only ~360w.

Dunno, I'd imagine that GTA4 draws more than Oblivion.

You could also try nvidia tech support forums, some cards has optional driver patches from manufacturer's site that can help.

im in search for a solution for about 4 weeks or something i looked through nearly all forums ^^

well actually geforce gtx 550 ti is for vista and win 7, there is only 1 driver working for xp, as far as i know

got that driver installed so there shouldnt be the problem ... im just clueless whats the problem here ...

the graphic card i got before this one was a Geforce 8800 gts and it worked w/o any problems ...

ah btw. since i made some changes on speedfan ( b4 i reinstalled windows xp ) one of the 2 fans of my graphic card wont work anymore :o dunno how i get it work again :/

but game didnt work even with both fans :(
