Oh how glorious it would be to overhaul Congress. If only there was some way to remove 300 incumbents from the House...

I'm hoping for sweeping court-drawn remaps after 2020. It'll probably take a Democratic victory in the 2016 presidential and them getting their filibuster-proof majority back in the Senate to even have a chance of it, but it would be so awesome to have fair lines in all 50 states.

Both of the incumbents in those areas have to actually win statewide races though, and that sharpens them because they don't have to win races in districts that are specifically designed to be accommodating to them. I'm in no hurry to replace Obama, even though he complicates things in the Senate tremendously and makes it harder to do good work. If his record was the exact same and the only difference was his party then Republicans would hoist him up beside Reagan, maybe higher, and point to him as the crown jewel of their party. He's consistently on the right side of the issues and as frustrating as it is to watch he bends over backwards to give the person/people he's negotiating with a deal that's much more suited to their needs and demands than his own. If we didn't have a climate so mired in polarization he's exactly the kind of functionalist president that you'd want to have to get shit done.

Generally the Senate incumbents are fine with me too. The reality is that 70+ of them and their staffs are always working hard to accomplish something and at the end of the day there's only 9-10 Senators that are absolutely a waste of space. For every Rand Paul or Mike Lee you've got 10 Senators that are working on 4 or 5 important things at once. There's really no reason to get rid of them because they have to win difficult races and they work much harder to actually have a shot at governing than their House counterparts.

Plus we're already replacing them at the fastest rate in history. I think the number is up to 44 now of how many Senators either came in with Obama or after him. That number will shoot up above 50 after the 2014 midterm due to the retirements of all the Democratic Senators that came in after Watergate, and many of the Senators that won in 2010 will also be replaced in 2016 because they're just renting seats from the other party. You could also see some retirements from older Republicans as well, such as Grassley, McCain, Burr, Hatch, and Cochran.

There's nothing wrong with it, but we don't actually have that anymore due to gerrymandering.

What do you propose be the representative body representing the population then?
