So you see, faith by itself isn't enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. James 2:17

WHAT ON EARTH IS "WORD OF THE DAY"?

I've asked this in 9000 threads already. -_-

It's Christian jargon usually meaning 'The Bible' or a Bible passage particularly the gospel. But in this case, he means it as any encouraging passage from the Bible.

So every day, an insightful phrase of the Bible is chosen and posted on the internet? Kind of makes sense to me, but reading the Bible as a whole would probably be more delighting. :p

While encouragement, not insight, is the goal. Yes. You can glean insight from the phrases if that is your desire. Unfortunately, the bible is massive and not linear so reading it in its entirety is too daunting for most. Thus he posts the short, encouraging, snippet to satiate our short attention spans.

On this passage though, I'm encouraged that while faith is the prerequisite to salvation, good works is the result and proof. :) I'd also like to encourage the other Christians in PaRD to bare better witness with their deeds/words.

Well, I'm not a Christian. Not because I disagree with the Bible, but because I disagree with the commonly accepted perception of it. People who read the Bible, giving incontrovertible credit to every word it says, are no good Christians in my eyes. Genesis, for example, is a metaphor for thousands of other things.

An additional reason is probably that I'm agnostic.

While you are entitled to your own views, I suggest you try not to use other Christians as the best example of Christianity but use Jesus Christ as the model. I personally disagree with a lot of the opulence ingrained in the Catholic church, but I don't write off Christianity because of it.

But do you consider yourself as a member of the Church?

I think conservative Christians give Jesus Christ too much credit. Turning water into wine and all that stuff.

I consider myself a Christian and in the years since I was saved, I've yet to identify with exactly one school of thought and particular church. I'm not really excited about the exact interpretations some of them have taken from the Bible and still have major objections with their collective greed. If you must lump me into a group, you could call me 'nondenominational' . I have a strong belief in God and Christ as our savior, but after that I struggle, like many, with the complexities.
