You mean Ron Paul? That guy who says the dollar is devaluating and national debt is undereported and we need to stop American imperialism and bring troops home and stop developing progressively more destructive bombs and quit interventionism?

It's okay, at least you care about these things. You can learn about them later.

Why don't you read this great blog that Ron Paul wrote last week, tons of Paulites told me they didn't read it yet:

They aren't raising taxes to 'fix the budget', they aren't fixing the budget. They're lowering taxes on the wealthy dramatically, to the point they only have to pay $10% when everyone else pays $25%, then they're lowering the corporate tax rate
How do they plan to balance the budget without raising taxes? By assuming that the government-propelled economic boom continues at 3% annual growth (only possible because of the government stimulus and encouragement- which they would remove entirely), and then cutting every single social program across the board into oblivion, until they're only shells of what they used to be- basically annihilating medicaid/medicare entirely.

So what they're doing is assuming that our economy continues to grow as it is under Obama's reins right now, which would be implausible once they cut all the guts out of the growth, and then cut everything anyway.
When a sensible approach would be to continue to spur on the economy, and fix the deficit by making the wealthy pay the same tax as the rest of us (something they got to cheat their way out of thanks to Bush, Bush & Reagan)

The reason they're cutting taxes on the wealthy is that many of them still believe that the trickle-down stuff is super-effective. So... I guess that's their own way of growing the economy. :P

I agree that we have to raise taxes too, but I understand where they're coming from. Honestly, the tax thing is probably part of a compromise with all the Norquistites in the party, which is dangerous, but the only way it'll pass in that group. >_<

Still think it's better than not cutting government spending at all.

The most humorous thing about the trickle down thing is that wealth mostly trickles up.

Still, no poor guy has ever given me a job.

I especially liked the part where the House unanimously voted against Obama's budget plan, 414 to 0.

But to be sure, all floated proposals thus far are gimmicks full of left to right pocket trickery, and assumptions of compounded growth.

Yeah I wish the congress would collectively grow up a little.
The "take my ball and go home" mentality has gone on long enough.

/e my party too. The way Reid conducts himself sometimes is shameful.

The discredited trickle down theory is exactly what got us into this mess. Now that we're on the way out of the mess, with the sky in sight again, putting them back into the same shitty idea would be economic suicide.

If the economy grows, and we raise taxes on the wealthy, then theres no deficit problem, theres no social security or medicare or anything else problem.
We'd be cutting the deficit, growing the economy, making America wealthier and creating more jobs

So why compromise at all? We stand to gain absolutely nothing

Back in the day, many people were economically conservative and socially liberal. Today, that economically conservative just doesn't make sense any more
I'm not looking forward to the one-party system, but at least it will be the good party
