The American government is actually pretty old now.  How many countries have younger governments than us?  China, Russia, Germany, France, Turkey, Iran, Egypt, Israel, Japan, etc.

A better question would be, who is older?

World's oldest surviving federation.

I can think of federations going back to classical Greece, although I'm sure the concept presages that by a few thousand years.

Yeah you're right, if you don't hold to a strict definition.

Actually, the Iroquois Federation (also) existed before the USA came into being. In fact, that was likely where Mr. Franklin got the idea for a colonial federation. :o So bogie is actually right on many counts.</nitpicking>

...Unless that was already what you were saying and I misinterpreted. '^_^ I've got lots of sugar in my system right now that's probably clouding my thinking; my aunt made this lovely dessert that I couldn't have enough of. xD

Yes, that is what I was saying, though the modern term federation usually refers to a state with a very strict adherence to federal law, which I feel would have been difficult before the modern era.

Ah, I see. '^.^

Although I don't think the U.S. qualified as that at its birth, or even in the first years under the Constitution. Do you consider it an older federation if it wasn't one in it's early years? Do you only consider it old if it was that way all the way? Am I overcomplicating this? xD
