exactly. The concept of meaning is what we define it to be.
example: Christians may think Nikolas Tesla went to Hell because he never got "saved" but he defined the meaning of his life by the benefits that his inventions would bring to all future humans. According to his value system, his afterlife was not as important as the effect of his inventions.
Therefore, Atheists are fully capable of choosing to define meaning in a way that makes their lives meaningful.
Just as Christians are free to define meaning in a way that makes the lives of all non-Christians appear meaningless.
I would define meaning in the sense of our existence as something that isn't a waste of time. You can try to argue until your mouth aches, but after life is gone there will be nothing left, by definition of YOUR belief. You may have had some great orgasm experiences, or caught a killer buzz that night with your bros, or felt an awesome sense of egoism after you slam dunked an ignorant Christian by asking some question about lifting a rock, but ultimately after life ends, so will any "meaning" you might have defined for yourself.
