Well, that's the whole point. United Nations Convention of the Laws of the Sea (UNCLOS), does not SEE the South China Sea as a Chinese territory, so to speak.
China wants to be in control of the entire South China Sea, because about 5 trillion in trade pass through there every year.

When it was just the South China Sea, it was one thing. When it was just Xi, ruler for life it was another thing.
But now it seems that China is starting to make some serious moves on the old "RISK" board.

If it is just about trade, that would be bad enough. I have the feeling it's gonna end up being a lot more than just trade though.

We have a military base in Djibouti too. My old unit did their fourth deployment to Djibouti Africa. It's to combat all the Somali pirates that are attacking the trade routes. If China wants to fight pirates too by all means.
