Not playing with toy guns might increase the likelihood of using real ones.

"Guns are great tools and more citizens should exercise their right to bear arms, therefore I'm going to do everything in my power to prevent future generations from becoming gun owners! Long live the Second Amendment!"

I don't think that's what was going through the principal's head...

Id imagine the idea was more along the lines of something like this:

Strobridge’s principal said the school held the exchange because he thinks playing with toy guns increases the chance of children playing with real ones when they grow up

...I brought it up because children are being punished in the schools for even pretending their fingers are a gun .

they live in the middle of a city and will likely never have any interest in showing the respect for guns that a capable owner should have.

That isn't for the principal to decide. There are a ton of responsible gun owners who live in cities. Arguably people living in the city need to exercise their right to bear arms more than anyone else, seeing as they're the most at risk of being attacked by criminal scum.

He said "using," not "playing."

I agree; said gun classes should be mandatory in every high school.

This isn't about them learning about firearms, however, this is about the principal trying to stifle future gun ownership rates.

Meh, even Eurofags like me played with toy guns as kids. Even though the law in our country is so silly you can't have toy guns that look like real ones. So you'd always be stuck with either homemade wooden or space blaster style rubbish. I had a glorious revolver though, with those blasting caps you could put inside. It was a metal one and the smoke came out the barrel when you shot. Had lots of fun with that.

If that's what he said, I might even agree with him, but I wouldn't dream of implementing his draconian policies. It's none of his damn business whether or not children play with toy guns and the school shouldn't be involved to begin with. This is a decision for the child's parents to make, not politicians or principals.
