It's more of a culture issue.

Different cultural groups have different standards. While a culture may be unique to one ethnicity, ethnicity is not unique to one culture.

A white kid from a religious family in the American south might have a hard time, a white kid in Toronto might have it easier.

It differs for everyone, depends more on what they culturally accept. I know really liberal Asians (including the middle-east) who come from really liberal Asian families here. I have Asian friends who are gay and it's accepted.

I legitimately have zero cares to feel if this happened.

Not everybody deep down thinks being gay is this icky icky awful thing.

Need more parameters to answer such a question.

How old is this person?
Is he for it, or is he trying to better himself?
Are there other siblings around him that can be influenced? ie. are they still young?

Okay, so they're Sri Lankan Hindus. It's not uncommon for people to come to our country, which is pretty liberal, and at the same time keep their traditional values.

This is what makes Canada such a wonderful spot. You are the important next step now. Your parents will take their traditions and cultures to the grave, and they deserve to, no one coming to this country should have to give up their beliefs.

Your job is to balance your culture, with the culture of Canada for the next generation of your family.

I can relate in a strange sense. My grandparents became Canadians aswell, but they didn't come to the country, the country came to them.

As Newfoundland joined confederation in 1949, all of my grandparents were born citizens of the Dominion of Newfoundland, on my father's side they were particularly anti-confederation, and believed in an independent Newfoundland.

2 generations later, I'm proud to be Canadian, greatest country in the world. But I still value the traditions and culture of my origin.

It's a complicated situation, but this is how we create a truly multicultural society, it takes time.
