Prosecuting criminals no matter what power structure they hide behind. That goes for bankers and the lobbying system, police and the criminal justice system, and pedophiles and the Church.
The idea that these power structures are going to police themselves cannot be taken seriously anymore.
Have to admit i 100% agree with you. As a CJ system member i can say there is an idea that deterrence doesnt work, more jail time and illegal offences wont stop criminals they say.
however i disagree because what people assume is a system running on deterrence is really a system of selective deterrence. When asked how i can explain the discrepancies between black and white people in prisons i simply reply "because not enough white criminals are going to prison"
if we ever actually stuck to a system with equal justice for all then criminals can stop hiding behind racial inequality excuses. The old mother stealing bread for her family example doesnt hold up when the numbers point to WAY too many violent homicide and assault offences. Thats not coercive action that decisive action regardless of mental state or economic standing
