personally I don't mind it existing, and I don't think anyone who is 'legit' and law obiding is against PRISM

There are enough studies that proof that people don't act normal if they are under surveillance. You don't speak free what you think about and reduce criticism

What is far worse is Facebook. cause it grew too big and is exploiting that is big - a giant database with almost everyone, millions and millions of people with their real name, address, studies, job, friends, and so on

There is every time something worse, but if you count all the deficiency that are present and sum them up, look ahead to where we are going, and I think that is a global problem,
its a not so bright future.

Sensationalism is unraveling, whole program turns out to be nothing but an anonymous source sending the washington post a powerpoint.

As somebody who has never made a facebook account or blogged about my bowel movements (or took pictures of my food or w/e) I have to say this doesn't effect me in the slightest.

The whole letting-people's-narcissism-make-comprehensive-databases-of-people-technique has been brilliant though.

I'm shocked this many people; on these boards, are OK with it. Especially given how many Libertarians/Freedom driven socialists we have.

It's just not that big of a deal. Even if they were actively monitoring everything you do / post online (which given the sheer size of the internet is impossible), unless you're actively employing subversive rhetoric (in which case shouldn't you be monitored?) no one cares about what you say or do.

I agree it's not a big deal, I'm just surprised there's not more people up in arms about this. On another board, I've seen people arguing that anyone who says this isn't a big deal "has no principles" and doesn't understand the "fourth amendment".

You shouldn't accept the invasion of privacy because you have nothing to hide. Especially Germany has had a very adverse reaction to this news, considering the past (DDR wasn't a fun place and used the exact same damn rhetoric). If a higher risk of terrorism is the consequence of keeping privacy alive, so be it. It's the price you have to pay. When the Patriot Act was enacted, the terrorists won.

Yeah, I really don't have principles on this. I'd be pretty at home in a much more authoritarian system so long as I was left alone when in my own home.

Is it privacy to have the government ignore what I do or say online in a public forum? The email controversy needs to be cleared up, and the government should have to get a warrant in order to search through your inbox, regardless of email age, but I don't see the government monitoring the internet to be that big of a deal.

If it's privacy or security, I choose security, at least with respect to this.

I agree public posts are fair game for anyone to investigate, and that's not a big deal. But private conversation through e-mail or Skype should not have a listening ear.

I'm the other way around with privacy vs security.
