the printed gun disintigrated after firing five or six rounds, its reciever cannot withstand the force released upon discharge.

How many rounds does it take to kill a man?

That's not the same gun. This gun only fires one bullet.

To be clear, that previous gun that only had the printed receiver only fired 5-6 rounds with their early versions. They eventually made one that worked through hundreds of rounds and demoed it with a huge drum magazine.
It's unknown how many this one that's fully printed can fire. The video shows a single round, but the gun appears to be perfectly fine after the shot. According to one source, "Andy Greenberg at Forbes has seen the gun fire multiple times".

There's nothing we can do about this other than to create harsh penalties for carrying unregistered ones in public.

I think you should HAVE to register these kinds. With other guns, the sale is ALWAYS recorded so that the ATF knows about it.

There's also a report of one of the guns they fired completely shattering after one shot.

There are already laws that cover things like this. Its no different from making one out of billet aluminum legally speaking. There several things that can land you in prison for 20 years if you print them though. Such as a drop in auto sear. Owning one, even without the gun it fits, its a felony. Even if its plastic that will break after a single shot.

You can legally machine your own firearm without telling the ATF. You just cant sell it, ever. Plenty of people machine their own lowers for ARs (that is the serialized part)

Can't wait until the day I can walk down to Kinkos and get an abortion and a printed 3D gun all in the same place.

/s

Yes, of course we should ban that shit.

It's dangerous, unreglated and untrackable.

No gun is trackable really...
And the sale of firearms isnt regulated in several states. Personal production of them isnt either.

Beat me to it.

Although the ATF does recommend putting some kind of serial number on the gun, simply so you can tell them its on there to aid in identification, should it ever become stolen.

The only people threatened by this are those that flood the world with guns, aka US, Russia, and France.

If this technology is banned it will only be to protect the profits of the weapon manufacturing industry. Of course they will be dishonest and claim some sort of moralistic reasoning.
