No shit, no one wants to buy a fucking cd anymore.
Steam is turning over massive profits, kickstarter projects are bringing out something we have not seen for years ORIGINAL EXCITING CONTENT.
Piracy is the best thing that ever happened to pc gaming.
Oh no, no more call of duty?
Thank god for that.
God forbid we actually have games that are not the 16th identical game in a row with a few slight changes.
EVERY game i am looking forward to right now was kickstarted or put on steam or a similar system, or released DRM FREE on good old games.
This does absolutely nothing to disprove my point. You point out games that were never really meant for the PC crowd anyway, like Call of Duty. How about Grand Theft Auto? Four was one of the most critically aclaimed games ever, and Rockstar assigned it's PC version to a secondary team, at a secondary studio. Rockstar Toronto did GTA IV on PC and their main team didn't even work on it. They probably threw 10 interns at it and said we'll give you a raise to port this. They don't care, because piracy destorys their profits. Their next big game never even came out on PC, and GTA V likely will not either.
Stream is a content distributor, and the company behind them, Valve, has slowed down the production of their great games because piracy makes the profits not worth it, and they can make money off other developers. Kickstarter may be great for smaller companies, but it's an example of how bad a shape the video game industry is in. Analysts have predicted the industry will shift from big $40-70 titles to mobile based games that even if they are pirated make money from the advertisting within, and the microtransactions they have.
Piracy is destroying an industry that looked unstoppable 5 years ago. Piracy is one of the reasons cookie cutter games guarenteed to sell 10+ million copies are being released evey year. Estimates put the % of games on PC that are pirated at over 40% on the low end, and much higher on the high end.
