I’ll first off start by saying that I am, by no means, a “godly” hammerdin, although I do consider myself very above average. People such as Kamber, Vic, Keoma, ect. are better then I am.

*As you can see, Holy Shield can make a huge difference. I always use it against melee opponents, although due to the charge bug I do not find it useful while facing characters with attacks that you can’t block. For those of you that do not know, Holy Shield causes the bug “Charge Lock” so if you can’t block the attack. Charge lock will only occur if you die while charging with Holy Shield active, or if Holy shield is to run wear off, while charging.


I have underlined what I believe you must always keep. I am mainly a tele hammerdin so I find that the 48 faster hit recovery frame is more then enough. You might need the 86 faster hit recovery frame while dueling a Trapasin or Elemental Druid, but the 48 faster hit recovery, in most cases, is just fine. The 125 faster cast rate frame must be kept at all times.*

*Only exception is against bowazons.

As a paladin, you will start out with base stats like this;

Amazon:


Bowa: **Difficulty: Easy - Hard **

If the duel means something just get grief, damage reduction equipment, cannot be frozen and as much life as possible. Ignore your Faster Cast Rate and Hammer damage and charge/smite her to death. If you cannot be assed to do this, just predict her running and charge there and hammer once or twice to force her to change direction. Then charge there and hammer away. Through this you can create a hammer field which she can't get out of. Avoid teleporting, as she can stun lock you if she has Knock Back. If she runs upwards, lock her and teleport on top of her, and hammer.

Desynch up to her and make a hammer field at her side/behind her. Dodge her furys and keep charging around her and hammering. This will create a partly invisible hammer field which will kill her. If she decides to go offensive with Charged Strike, you should be able to easily lure her into your hammers. If she tries to teleport under you and Charged Strike, desynch up to her and create a hammer field and then run away.

Her clouds are easy to dodge, but I they can be dangerous. Desynch up to her and make a hammer field at her side/behind her. Dodge her poison and keep charging around her and hammering. This will create a partly invisible hammer field which will kill her. You should be able to easily lure her into your hammers. Use cleansing if allowed.

Sorceress:

You can play offensively here. Just desynch up and teleport on her. If she predicts this, desynch up and lock, then wait for her to tele away and just teleport onto of her and hammer. She will die quickly. If she uses 200 fcr and plays defensive, try to charge around and make some invisible hammers to make her go on the offensive. If she decides to walk downwards when you tele on top of her, tele about 2 inchs below her, and create a hammer field.

Charge her with either Light Resist Aura or Cold Resist Aura and hit her. It shouldn't be hard even with low ar as she most likely wont have more then 2k defence. After you hit her, retreat for 8 seconds (OW duration) and go back in. Once she is down to 1 life, pull out FoH and go in for the kill.

95% ES precast fireball sorceress: **Difficulty: Very Hard **

These are very annoying. They can often tank you out, and get their mana back very fast. Try to play defensive with desynch and mediation if it's allowed. When you get a good chance, try to surprise her by locking, but never do this when she's below you. This is because she is probably firing upwards then, and you will tele right into her stream of Fire Balls. This applies to all casters, but is especially important vs Fire Ballers.

An easier way to duel these is to charge lock them with Malice and get Open Wounds triggered on them. You must be careful while doing this as they can very easily spam a few fireballs at you and then it's game over. If you can successfully get them down to 1 life, pull out FoH and kill them.

These are good vs. hammers. What you do is never teleport when she has you name locked with mind blast. Instead, try to desynch up to her and hammer without teleporting. Always be ready. If she is casting mind blast and misses you, or if she is teleporting or laying traps, tele on her right away. If you've created a lot of hammers at one place, the good ones will try to tele away to a new spot, try to name lock her when she does this.

Elemental Druid: **Difficulty: Very Hard **

The bane of hammers. Max damage reduction and 86 faster hit recovery is a must. Some people play pure hammer, and try to play defensive by making massive hammer fields which takes the wolves away and then try to lock the druid down while recasting. Others try to spam hammers and then walk downwards a meter or two, and then spam again and repeat. This may cause the druid to get caught in a double hammer wave if he teleports on you, which usually kills him. The last, and coolest method, is to equip a grief and 75 faster cast rate and spam hammers until he teleports near you. When he does name lock him WITH SMITE and smite him out of his wolves to the hammers. This is hard to do and requires timing, but it is the only true chance a hammers has versus a good ele druid.

Treat them like a vita blizz sorceress. Their wolves pose a problem, but their damage is way lower than that of tornado. You can usually just out tank them after some clever defensive desynching and hammer fields.

The shield doesn’t help at all vs. hammers. Desynch around him and create a hammer field. Never teleport on him unless he pulls a widow on you.

This is a pretty balanced duel, but you have the advantage. He usually does good damage, so don't underestimate him and teleport on him. Instead, desynch up behind him and hope he WWs into your field thinking you're in front of him. Basically, just try creating a hammer field around him that he cannot get out of. If he uses widow a lot, name lock him and let him get a few screens away and wait for him to stand still, which means he's pulled his bow, and then teleport hammer. Also, be aware of that his whirlwind desynchs, which means he is usually a bit further away than it looks. Remember this and predict his moves.

Can be quite tricky. If he knows how to run downwards when you lock him, desynch under him. If he is a telewhore, name lock him and teleport hammer. If it's allowed, use cleansing when you get hit by either the poison or the curse.

Not as easy as some people say, if you duel good ones. If they are v/t with grief, treat them like smiters, but you'll have to be a bit aggressive. Versus t/vs (non grief users) just play like vs. FOHers. Nothing more to it really. The most important thing here is to desynch up behind them and create an invisible hammer field there.

Hammerdin (Vigor+charge): **Difficulty: Easy - Very Hard **

All depends on who you are dueling. If he is extremely defensive you must try to conserve your mana by not charging around too much. If he plays offensively, try to predict his charges and get there first and create a field. HvH must be learnt, and reading about it doesn’t really help.

Hammerdin (Teleport): **Difficulty: Easy - Very Hard **

Be careful when charging around and he is teleporting and hammering around you. If you are not desynched, he can easily hammer you into a dead end or even break your charge with his body. Generally these are offensive, and you should just play defensive if you want to win (This method is extremely boring). Instead, try to create a natural area advantage by teleporting around and letting lose single hammers over huge areas around him, and "herd" him towards a wall. If you can, blind spot tele him, which is right under him.

That’s what it will look like on your opponents screen.

Basically what you do is Charge + Vigor off screen, then back on.

As you can see, you will almost become invisible to your opponent. It’s a very valuable skill to have.



Invisible Hammers:

I spam 1 or 2 hammers with A/Z then switch to S/X and do a medium/long charge, 1 to 2 hammers with A/Z, switch to S/X, ect.

I usually do it in a square pattern.

x = where I spam hammers.
o = opponent

Auralock:

This is my favorite technique on my Paladin. Is deadly if used properly.

Basically what you do is name lock them with concentration, and quickly switch to teleport, then back to concentration. You will
