The Pyro

_______________________________________________________________________________________

Table Of Contents

I. Basic Information
II. Strengths
III. Weaknesses
IV. Weapons Breakdown
V. Strategys
VI. Advanced Techniques and Information
VII. Where to Hide, and How to Run

_______________________________________________________________________________________

I. Basic Information

-The Pyro is the 3rd fastest class behind the Medic and Scout.
-It has 175 Health
-It cannot be set on fire by another Pyro
-Fire does 75 damage throughout its duration
-Fire has more range while walking backwards then it does while walking forwards.
-The closer you are, the more damage your flamethrower does.
-A pyro can take a Level 1 Sentry in an all out fight 1v1 without hiding behind walls
as long as the fight begins with you being fairly close to it.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

II. Strengths

You can have a strength versus anybody, it depends all about on how you play
but these are the main classes you have an easier time with.

Scout- They can be difficult at times, but due to their low health they are an easy kill.
Demoman- All there is to worry about is getting near him. If you are near its no problem.
Engineer- An engineer without his sentry is pretty weak.
Medic- Stay away from the saw and your fine.
Sniper- They can snipe you sure, but if you are near them they are hopeless.
Spy- Spys will only go after you if you leave yourself vulnerable.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

III. Weaknesses

You have a few weaknesses, some of them are very difficult to counter.
If you lose to a Heavy or a Soldier, don't feel bad. You have other weaknesses
but they aren't as difficult to counter as these.

Soldier- Critical shot will kill you in 1 hit, and will barely hurt them. AOE Damage is very difficult to evade at close range.
Heavy- They are able to kill you just about instantly in close range.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

IV. Weapons Breakdown

Flamethrower

Flamethrower is something you want to have out just about all the time.

Shotgun

People tend to run out of your flame's reach, and when that happens you'll want to pull out this thing. In Pyro vs. Pyro fights
this is very useful.

Axe

Axe- People think that the axe is better then the flamethrower and shotgun in Pyro vs. Pyro fights. It isn't. Flamethrower + Shotgun are superior.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

V. Strategys

Scouts

Smart Scouts will shoot you while running back. Those are the scouts that you just leave alone. Go behind a wall or into a building
and hope they chase you in so you can set them on fire. Dumb scouts run back and forth, so you trick them by walking backwards
then they run towards you, and then you run to them and set them on fire.

Soldiers

Tough to fight. If you are at mid-range, dodge their rockets and shotgun them. Only try to flamethrower them if you manage
to sneak up behind them. Even then they can just turn around and kill you with ease.

Pyros

Pyros on the Xbox 360 are dumb most of the time. They are blinded by their own fire spam. Try to stay behind them as much as possible.
Some also use an axe. The axe is easy to counter, stay a small distance away and spam fire.If the Pyro isn't easy to get behind
and also uses the flamethrower, you use your range advantage by walking backwards while firing and let them chase you, you'll
hit them but they won't hit you. If you are ever out of flame range then pull out the shotty. If possible try to use the shotty
while running away and then go behind a wall and sneak up on them with the flamethrower.

Demomen

If they have stickys down alredy in your path to them, then don't even bother. Walk away or find a different path to reach them. If they
are shooting pipe bombs at you then bunny hop in a curvy pattern. If they shoot stickys then hope they have bad aim. If you manage to
get near them, they are pretty hopeless because anything they do hurts themself too unless they bottle you.

Heavys

There are two types of Heavys. A Heavy that seems to have his sensitivity set to lowest possible or is simply dumb, and a Heavy that knows
what hes doing and doesn't allow people to get behind him. Even though I would highly suggest just staying away from Heavys in general, if
the case ever comes where you are forced to fight one heres how you do it. If its a dumb Heavy that can't turn, you stay behind him no
matter what. If its a smart Heavy then you have to try to escape and get behind a wall. After getting behind a wall then you have to lose him
completely because he will probably come up there to see if you are there. After losing him completely you'll want to stay near a wall at all
times and try to get closer and closer to him. If he turns around or you think he will turn around, then go behind the wall you are near. After
reaching him eventually, crouch right behind him as close as possible and hold the right trigger. He won't die instantly but it is alot quicker then
jumping in circles around him.

Engineers

Engineers are people you don't want to follow or charge into. Their people they attempt to bait are Pyros. If one charges you and then
starts to run away then pull out your shotty and get as much damage done to him as possible and wait for him to come back out. He will
heal from his dispenser and I nearly garuntee you he will go to the same place to attempt to lure you. So while he's sitting there healing,
figure out where his sentry is by listening to the beeps, and get behind the closest wall to where he comes out to bait and hide there.
When he comes out to bait you again, just follow him and don't let him realize that you are right behind him until he is far enough to not be
able to just run back to his sentry. Now onto killing his sentry. A Pyro is able to kill a level 1 sentry himself without any sapping or staying out
of its reach as long as you don't start the fight from it's farthest range possible. If you don't think you are able to take the sentry, then try
to find a crack in a wall that you can shoot through or stay right next to wall and be sort of in front of the wall and still be able to shoot into
the room. Theres also the shotgun technique which is when you stay behind a wall then peak out for a second and get your shotgun shot
out and then go behind the wall again. You take less damage doing so because they aren't able to shoot you while you are unable to shoot
again and because missiles can't hit you.

Medics

Medics are fairly easy. I like to sit behind the heavy they are healing and watch them freak out. The only way they can kill you is if you run into
their saw or if they use their range advantage with the needle gun. You don't have to be very sneaky versus them, it's more of a just beat the
crap out of them before they beat the crap out of you type of fight.

Snipers

If they are trying to snipe you and you are too far to be able to do any real damage then bunny hop in curvey patterns to avoid being shot in
the head. Once you get a good distance away but aren't quite at them yet then shoot them with your shotgun to throw off their aim until
you get close enough to flamethrower them. Sometimes you'll see Snipers scoped in and not aiming at you. If you see them doing that then
you can just go barely to their side and walk right behind them without being noticed at all. The scope ruins their sight radius.

Spys

Killing the Spys is what the Pyro's job is. Your flames make them visible when cloaked and makes it so when they are disguised and on fire it will
give them a glow of being on the enemy team so your team knows they are not just a teamate on fire. Now, about how to kill them. You
should naturally shoot a puff of fire at your teamates to make sure they aren't Spys unless they have their secondary or melee weapon out.
A Spy that is disguised cannot pull out their disguises secondary or melee weapon. You can also tell if somebody is a spy by their move speed.
Spys disguise as Scouts sometimes and they'll crouch walk to hide the speed loss. When they do that it's pretty obvious that they are a Spy. If
you see a Spy cloak try to guess where he is and shoot around a lot. It will scare him to death and possibly set him on fire. Another way to get
some easy Spy kills is to shoot some random shots if you have the ammo to do so in areas that Spys camp around the most, such as around rocks
and behind buildings.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

VI. Advanced Techniques and Information

-The Pyro should always be bunny hopping. If you don't like to do it then you don't have to but it is very useful, because the Pyro is all about evasion.
-Make sure that you are never using your shotgun when the target is in Flamethrower range.

Strafing

Strafing is used to change the direction of your jump.

Heres how its done.
1. Jump
2. Move your aimer to the right OR to the left
3. Move in the direction that you're moving the aimer

Pushing

This technique that isn't something you need to use commonly, but works very well if done properly. Now think about this situation. You are
at Point B on Gravel Pit hiding behind the ramp. Four Soldiers are coming up the ramp and none of them notice you. What do you do? Well,
you have two choices. Push one and get a kill OR run off and not risk the chances of death. Wait for the all the Soldiers to be up the ramp
except for the last one. While you are on the side of the ramp quickly strafe up to the left of the Soldier if he is closer to the right of the
ramp and to his right if he is closer to the left of the ramp. After doing so, run into him. It's difficult to explain how it pushes him. You cannot
actually "push" somebody, but trust me, it will happen the way you hope it will if performed correctly. Anyway, after you run into them it will
push them off the ramp and from then on you can own them in the corner without the other Soldiers even seeing it happen.

Bunny Hopping

Bunny Hopping doesn't exactly allow you to gain speed unless you are doing it while going downhill. It is more used for the evasion.

Heres how you do it
1. Jump
2. Crouch(Try to stay crouched until you are about to land)
3. Strafe
4. Jump again as soon as you land and repeat.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

VII. Where to Hide, and How to Run

Keep in mind that when you think you found a hiding spot, make sure that your Flamethrower isn't sticking out..

Places to hide
-Rocks, there are many rocks you can hide between that people don't know about.
-Windows, people don't seem to realize that you can go THROUGH the window.
-Walls
-Corners that people don't regularly check

Running
-Abuse walls as much as possible
-Windows are great for escaping. Make sure they don't see you when your jumping out the window
-Juke them by going behind a wall, and when they think your going to come out the other side
just come out the way you came in

The Spy has 125 health, which is the lowest amount, and is the 4th fastest move speed, and unlike other classes job to outgun his enemies, yours as spy, is
to outsmart them.

Strength: - they can also be your weaknesses in rare cases
Engineer - Your sapper takes out his buildings
Sniper - When hes scoped in, he cant spy check
Heavy - When hes reved up, he doesnt really noticed anything behind him, or will he turn around to spy check if hes firing
Demo - When they camp, they watch their stickies constantly
Weakness: - they can also be your strength in rare cases
Pyro - His flames are an easy spy checker
Medic - Faster, not a damage dealer, so he turns and spy checks quite a bit
Scout - Fastest class, he will spy check anyone
Soldier - They shoot at the ground if they see you, about 1 hits you if a direct hit
Spy - They can see you come out of your spawn, they are always behind you, will see you diguise when following your friendlys

==========================================================================================================================================

Weapon Breakdown:
Pistol:It is generally a clutch/run away weapon, not to kill with, its hard to aim, fast reload makes it a good weapon to snipe dispensers and teleporter entrances/exits
Does 60 damage from short range
Does 30 damage from medium range
Does 15-20 damage from long range
Critical does 120 damage at any range
Butterfly Knife:1 hit from behind the target
40 damage if you jab at them
watch out for the back stab animation, it takes up a second of just doing nothing before the back stab actually happens
Cloak: 10 seconds of complete invisibility
although you should stay away from dispensers while invisible as they will show a little line of healing going into which is a dead give away
if you bump into someone, your person will give off a red/blue hue(which ever team your on)
all over your body or if you get hurt by anything except falls, and since spies are the most targeted class, you will get raped if someone spots you
if you climb on dispensers/sentries you will not give off this hue, teleporters with also
give off the hue
Disguise's: this is MEANT to only cover from afar, up close you need to act the part of whatever your disguised as
you can disguise as any class and on friendly or enemy team, disguise as friendly where you
want to hide yourself as being a spy (around team mates, cuz comon, a friendly heavy
walking around with enemy soldiers, seems a bit suspicious)

==========================================================================================================================================

Disguise Rundown:
Scout:
speed issue, you get no speed boost, and it makes it painstakingly obvious your a spy
Soldier: Same as heavy, if you don't need to be able to catch up to them, this wouldn't be a bad choice
Pyro: one of the best disguises, runs at same speed, short range so he wont be shooting as often as other classes, they do move about the map as
they wish, cornering enemies and what not, so if an enemy sees you walking around in a random spot, you wont draw as much attention
Demo: not a bad decision, except for the little bit of slow move speed
Heavy: same as soldier
Engineer: good one to use if you are hiding in a little niche in the wall(cuz he has a short primary weapon, unlike sniper and pyro)
Medic: bad disguise, no uber % on your name
Sniper: also a good disguise to use, it lets you stay behind your enemies, but only give away, no scoping in
Spy:only use when walking with team mates, no spy disguise is also dead give away

==========================================================================================================================================

How To's:
180:
when you see an enemy approaching, walk as close to his side as you can without bumping into
him, and when he gets out of your field of vision, turn fast and him
Acting the Part: This will sometimes get you a kill, but you anyone smart (which is a very low % of
xbox players) will continue spy checking, it involves you acting of whatever disguise you have on,
no matter if you get spy checked, this is different if you get set on fire, if your set on fire,
get out of there and grab hp/kill pyro if possible, but you should never stop acting the part
because your more likely to look like a friendly to them if you just shrug off the spy check.
Stalking: requires you to cut corners and take short cuts to get closer to enemies, say your
tailing an enemy spy disguised as your team, hes at point A, while you a little behind at B, since
he has no clue your there, he wont cut corners or try to hurry up, while you, can cut corners and
take little short cuts, and get close enough to kill him
Jumping Back stabs: there's 2 main types of jumping back stabs, 1 is where you camp a spot high up
where they wont look, and jump directly on their heads as they pass by, and the second is where you
camp an incline, say stairs, and you wait for an enemy to start to go up them, as he does, jump
over his head, do a 180 spin while looking at him the entire time and stab

==========================================================================================================================================

The Sniper: you will mostly find scoped in looking for a target, make sure not to get in their line
of sight, and it shouldn't be a problem if they aren't aware of spies on the your team. If you have
killed them a couple times, let them spy check corners and stuff after they spawn for a bit to go
in for the kill. If its the first time, do it and get out of there, if not, keep jabbing cuz they
wont notice for a bit and you should be able to kill them before they get out their. But if they
notice, your pretty done for, their melee takes you out in 2 hits non critical, critical is one and watch
out for SMG, its a spy checking weapon generally.

The Engineer: This is the most spy cautious character overall, mostly because hes a key target for
spies. So you want to try to sneak around him i.e. get behind/on his head, there's 2 types of
engineers, offensive, and defensive, taking out offensive ones are easy usually, cloak around a
corner close to them, you'll usually have a team on hand because they build sentries where the
action is, sap it and call to team mates for help/pistol it yourself while the engy is probably
killing on his own/dragging ppl to the sentry. Now for Defensive Engy, which the most popular kind,
how you attack him is all based on his set up, whether hes hiding behind the sentry and if the
dispensers behind him, so first, learn where/how he moves around so you can sneak up undectded, try
to get him either while hes right behind the sentry or away from it, you should set a trap and sap
it and put yourself in between him and the sentry if hes away, and if hes behind it, either do a
sap and stab or a stab and sap, first requires you to sap the sentry (noob way to dealing with the
situation) and then stab engineer as hes trying to wrench it to knock off your sapper, the latter,
involves you to stab the engineer, and to sap the sentry b4 it has time to turn around and shoot you.

The Heavy: HE is an easy kill usually, unless hes being a spy checking bitch for his team mates and
is just sitting there shooting down the path, but his usual job is tank, and it involves a medic
heavy team to go in front of damage dealers such his team mates and tank the damage while his mates do
damage and try to kill other team, if hes there, its going to be a pain to get behind if its a small
walk way, try to find a different route, but if your already behind him, try to get medic and him,
but hes the only necessary kill for the time being, now if hes a spy checker, wait till he runs to
get more ammo, and if hes got a dispenser, your screwed for going for him, all you can do is call
for a sniper to help you kill him or team mates to draw him out of his corner.

The Demo: This character is a strange one to take out, hes much like the engineer in the fact that he
excels are camping with stickies, but unlike engineer, has much more mobility as he can denote his
stickies/move them as he pleases, so as far as taking them down, go cloak and find where his
stickies are, if he hasn't planted any yet, stalk and wait for him to start and get him then, and if
hes already got them set up, its probably all facing where your team has an easier chance of getting
in at, so go around them usually and get behind him, he should be facing the stickies at all times
watching for your team coming in, if your lucky, he will be alone, but that's not always the case,
remember, its a team game, so go for the person causing the most trouble for your team, anyways, if
you not so lucky, try to escape as fast as you can, look for windows or close doorways.

The Pyro: Most people think this is the class you should fear most as a spy, but its not, as long as
you not have pissed him off, or one of his team mates, or unless hes just on the hunt for spies,
then avoid at all costs, you should be left alone, but in most cases, spies are to scared to get
within 100 feet of pyros, so he will not be looking for spies, you should still approach with
caution try to look natural and do not follow him directly, hopeful you can stalk him well enough
to catch up and kill him, and if you do, after 1-2 kills, stay away from them, they will get pissed
and go on spy hunts.

The Medic: The medic is a tricky kill for spies in some cases, if they are smart, they will NEVER
stop moving unless completely safe from spies, and will turn around periodically to check for
spies, just follow normally like if you were on his team, and wait till he gets to the front lines
and then go for him, and if hes got an uber, you NEED to take him out b4 he uses it, it can crush
an entire defense by itself, so try to listen for the little sound that a medic with an uber ready
makes, and you can spot stupid medics right off the bat, they will be standing still doing nothing
behind the slow heavy, just trailing him and makes for an easy 2 kills
The Scout: This is the class you should most fear as a spy, hes fast, able to double jump, and the
speed bonus makes him an excellent spy checker, his scatter gun hurts close up, and their pistol is
deadly from afar if they notice you not moving, so try not to run into them anywhere, only real way
to take out a scout is to 180 them when they are on there way to do something, other than that,
stay out of their path, also, if there smart they will only stop moving if there trying to pistol a
sentry, so try to camp areas where it cant shoot at, dumb ones will just randomly pull out the
pistol sometimes and try to snipe peopel, ez kill

The Soldier: While Chasing this Character, under no circumstances should you be noticed by him,
because he will do his normally just shoot at his feet which do about 150 damage to you while he only
does a 50 to himself, so if hes got a medic nearby, it doesn't matter how much damage they do to
themselves but hes slower then most classes, so its still mostly easy to get him.
The Spy: this will ensure a difficult challenge to get passed, as a spy, you know what spies think
and will most likely do, so you can use this to your own advantage and spy check, when your behind
the enemy, look out for team mates, most spies will disguise as enemies right out of the spawn, and
try to get them on a jump back stab, because they will certainly notice someone tailing them, but
this is also reversed, so be cautious of enemy spies at all times.

==========================================================================================================================================

Mind Games:This is where you really get to piss off your enemies, as a spy, you must be adept at
mind games, for instance, your being tailed by a pissed off engineer, you hit a turn and go through it,
as you turn, cloak, and wait for him to go around you, uncloak, free kill, utilizing your cloak is
the key to playing mind games. Or going down a narrow hallway, and if someones chasing you, you
can act like you've ran out of cloak, before you round the corner, and cloak, wait till they pass,
kill.

==========================================================================================================================================

Special Info:
#1.
1 of the most Deadly tactics a spy can employ is the jumping back stabs, so always try to get
height advantages on enemies, if you can get above enemies without them noticing you ( a perfect
example of this kind of situation is on Gravel Pit, on top of C, while your team is going for A or
B most other team mates wont notice someone sitting on C, so try to time it so you land on their
head or just behind them so you can stalk them a bit and get the kill
#2. Something most people don't realize is that you can jump on people's head and back stab them from
there, but to do it, you must be aiming behind them, at the back of their head or below while still
being on their head, anything that is ahead of the middle of their face wont count
#3. One thing that happens after a while of good spy back stabs, people start to look out where ever
you kill them most at, so you can chases them, after a few times, they will spy check, if you can
keep killing them, they will either switch to pyro, or watch their back almost 24/7, so stop going
after them for a while and if your lucky, they will stop checking and forgot about you, kill them
once or twice more at the most and just camp them somewhere either further behind or farther ahead
of your current position.
#4.Another place to camp is by friendly sentries, where ppl can sit and out range them
#5. If you ever go across a high traffic area like the bridge on 2fort, go invisible and get across as
fast as you can, if your spotted, duck out of there any means necessary.
#6. What most people don't know about stabs, is that for the xbox, they haven't shrunken the size of the
back, so its a back stab if you can get on their left hand side and hit their shoulder
#7. the Spy should generally be the last class you play, as his disguises warrant him able to get
behind turrets, but you must also act the part of your disguise, play the maps and learn where all
the classes would go/do.

sorry zach but you gotta really know your stuff to write guides like these. this is why we are hesitant about making guides for all characters, we are only truly pro at pyro and spy. this is all information we found out on our own, none of it was looked up

you can help us out on making basic guides for other classes though

 you dont think i really know my soldier stuff? i thought i did...
i learned quite a bit on my own. where to aim, what to expect, what to watch for, how to deal with sentries, and each individual class really.
but ya i guess thats fine

not saying your bad, but your not #1 yet :P
you can help us out on the basic guide for soldier.

and yeah. what david said. just try to figure out some tricks besides rocket jumping and work on a guide
