Hey guys, I was digging through the guide collection and I have noticed 2 things. #1 a lot of the character guides are very old and out dated. #2 there is a lot of clutter.
I decided to try something a bit unique and new to this forum.
This will be a beta-project, meaning, I am going to see how it goes before we devote a load of time to it. My goal is to make a clear, concise character guide for each class that includes multiple builds and opinions based around the communities input for today's ladder slasher.

We are going to start with the FIGHTER

The questions I want people to answer are;

How do I build a fighter?
What kind of stats do I place at level 1?
What kind of stats do I place as I climb higher?
What kind of items do I use throughout my climb?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of my character build?
Do I use any strategy for planning future gear usage on other classes?

I am looking for short answers. I am looking for to the point answers.
Lets give this a try. After we get several opinions I will formulate a guide based on what everyone says that seems agreeable then we will vote if it's a good guide or not.
Depending on the success, we will continue this project for each and every class.

Great idea mate - I see way too often new players being linked to old and outdated guides :) hopefully this will eliminate that somewhat.

I don't play melee so I can't really help with this one, but definitely count me in for magicians + guardians :D

Ouch, I was following the fighter guide :-(

To answer your questions:

1. I don't understand what exactly you mean.

2. I placed them all into vitality due to not having any equipment at start.

3. I placed them into strength until about level 15 then put them into dex. Once I got some +dex equipment I started putting back into strength. Everyone seems to agree 110-120 dex is the target, with strength following that.

4. I chose between sword, club and axe at the start. I picked axe and stuck through it the whole time. As for the rest of the equip I went with +str at first then switch to +dex. I do sacrifice some defense for the +dex. The charm does not matter, its whatever helps the most.

I made this awhile back.

The Middle Critter Fighter

Position in catacombs : Middle

How to stat your Fighter:

On your fighter this is what you start off with:

Str: 50
Dex: 40
Intel: 10
Vita: 50

I strongly suggest putting your first ten stat points into Dex.
All your other stats gained from leveling should go into Str.

How to gear your Fighter:

I suggest following this as closely as possible unless there is nice adds on the items like the following:

Max Life
Life Steal
Vita
Dex

Weapons / Clubs
Level - Enhanced Effect
------------------------------
Tier 3 - 55 e.e+
Level 5 - 70 e.e+
Level 10 - 75 e.e+
Level 15 - 85 e.e+
Level 20 - 90 e.e+
Level 25 - 100 e.e+
Level 30 - 100 e.e+
Level 35 - 100 e.e+
Level 40 - 100 e.e+
Level 45 - 100 e.e+
Level 50 - 100 e.e+
Level 55 - 100 e.e+
-----------------------------------------------
1 Str / Dex is the same as 1 e.e so a 119 e.e / 1 dex club is the same as a 120 e.e club and a 119 e.e / 1 str club is the same as a 120 e.e club.
-----------------------------------------------

For armors I would suggest going with Plate Mails or Chain Mails.
They will save your ass from heavy hits while your standing in the middle.

Plates / Chains
Level - Enhanced Effect
------------------------------
Tier 3 - 200 max life+
Level 5 - 300 max life+
Level 10 - 18 dex+
Level 20 - 25 dex+
Level 35 - 35 dex+
Level 55 - 45 dex+

Last but not least is the charms! I suggest getting dex charms to even you out at 120 dex by level 55 :)
These also wont have to be upgraded as often since they dont loose effect like e.e items as you gain levels ;)

Charms
Level - Stats
------------------------------
Tier 3 - 150 max life+
Level 5 - 250 max life+
Level 10 - 20 dex+
Level 20 - 27 dex+
Level 35 - 35 dex+

None of the gear up there is amazing but it will get the job done for you. It wont be too expensive and it wont be too cheap.

The gear you just listed will never be obtained by someone who just started. That stuff is too costly and do you really need that much ee at lvl 55 to reach the MQ? I was going to go with a ~100.

Clubs are actually extremly cheap.

And that guide can be easily lowered in req. When I made it I wasent really thinking and clubs used to be extremlyyyy cheap.

e: There, lowered the e.e req on clubs, also gunna add : You can skip a tier if you dont have the funds.

As a catacomb player I beleive that 100 is the maximum amount of dex you need - even 80 will suffice. For a beginers guide i beleive that reccomending 120 is overkill, if the player is on a lower budget.

Softcore, it's pointles to add points into vit. Add to dex until you have enough to reach 80-100 (dpeending on budget and preference) with your final charm on, then stack strength.

IMO

i think with a fighter it depends on the wepon you choose to use,and i believe you should be consistant on the weps you use for proficencya a fighter using swords or clubs should try get dex to 120 at lvl55 that includes dex on items.however a fighter using axes shoud go much more str only take dex to like 80,because axes have much lower crit%so more damage from str would be best,i also believe that a fighter should be a front fighter not middle never back,so i suggest starting stats in vitality to increase life and defenseas youcontinue to lvl

weapon type makes no difference to the amount of dex you should have, or the effectivness of that stat.

As I said up there, things can be edited and something like that is good to be added, anyones opinion on something can be mixed into it :P
I can lower the dex req on items and stuff. But 100 dex is nice. 120 is pretty overkill :P

I forgot that people start with only a few hundred or even less then that. I started with 10,000fg so it was like meh when I made it :P
