Hi d2jsp members , this guide is meant to answer some of the most often asked question regarding connecting to Battle.Net problems

Connecting and staying connected to Battle.Net can be troublesome from time to time..so next there will be listed a few ways of correcting these problems

Remember, the first step in fixing a problem is identifying it's nature

Windows XP solutions
MAC , Vista problems will probably be answer in another guide, feel free to pm with any questions/suggestions

Stay up to date with Battle.Net

If you are not able to get onto Battle.net, download and install the latest patch

Improve network performance

You may need to exit any programs you have running in the background to improve network performance and stability and to ensure optimal resources for Battle.Net

Temporary Realm Restrictions

Please try to connect to all four Battle.net Realms (USEast, USWest, Europe, and Asia).
If only one Battle.net Realm is inaccessible to you,it's probably a temporary connection problem or a temporary restriction.
Battle.net access may be temporarily restricted for one of the following reasons:

- Spamming text in the chat channel (often associated with bots)

- Rapidly connecting/disconnecting to Battle.net (often associated with bots)

- Repeated attempts to use an invalid CD-Key

- Repeated use of an incorrect password may lock an account login for your protection

- Repeated use of third-party programs (hacks) icon_pointr.gif these include but are not limited to sending bad packets, flooding the server(s), and the use of hack programs

Check your Battle.Net Gateways

Make sure you're gateways are correct and that the reg key that should contain them is not empty

they should look like this :

1002
04
uswest.battle.net
8
U.S. West
useast.battle.net
6
U.S. East
asia.battle.net
-9
Asia
europe.battle.net
-1
Europe

Checking the gateways is done easy and without involving additional software :

Test your internet connection

#1 Use the Telnet command to make sure your Internet connection is running smoothly.

Click on the Start button on the taskbar and then Run. In the Run window, type cmd and click on the OK button to open the Command Prompt window.

Type telnet uswest.battle.net 6112. Note that uswest in this example should be replaced by the server you are having problems reaching (Asia, Europe, USEast, USWest). Now press the Enter key.

A new screen will appear. If your connection is successful, you will see a cursor in the top left corner of this screen. Type the letter C on your keyboard to connect to the Battle.net server. A successfully established connection with the Battle.net realm will return a This is a Battle.net server message.

If your connection is not successful, you may receive a The current directory is invalid error which indicates no active Internet connection, or the presence of a firewall restricting TCP port 6112.

#2 Use the Traceroute report to help identify if and where a problem is happening.

Q: What is trace route ?

A: The trace route program tests the connection from your computer to the target location you specify and every "hop" in between.
Using this program you can determine at what location the data you are sending is running into a problem.
Using the information you gain from running the program you can contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and work with them on solving your Internet connection issues.

Steps to run the Trace Route command:

(may want to check the upper screen shots for info)

1. Click Start and then Run

2. Type CMD and press Enter

3. In the command window, typetracert realm.battle.net > C:\tracert.txt and press the Enter key. Note that 'realm' should be replaced by the realm you a having problems reaching (Asia, Europe, USEast, USWest)

example:tracert Europe.battle.net > C:\tracert.txt. A file will be created on your C: drive called tracert.txt that contains your trace route information.

4. Type exit and press the Enter key to close the command window.

I ran Trace Route, now what do I do?

- Windows users should go to My Computer, C:\ drive, and open the tracert.txt file.

Items that may indicate a problem with your Internet connection and require you to inform your ISP:

Timed out's
* symbols
If the number value before the ms appears to jump around from low to high a lot or if the numbers stay at high values.

If you see any of the items listed above , in your trace route for any of the entries, you may need to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and provide them your trace route information for analysis and solutions.

Battle.net servers are protected from unsolicited traffic and attacks, all the hops after you have reached the server may give you an error message such as 'Request Timed Out' or 'Destination Net Unreachable'. The current server names begin with various mixes of numbers and letters, and end in the following addresses:

-ASIA: gblx.net (example: POS1-3-155M.cr2.SEL2.gblx.net)
-USWEST: attens.net (example: mdf2-bi8k-2-eth-1-1.rwc1.attens.net)
-USEAST: attens.net (example: mdf1-bi8k-1-eth-2-1.wdc1.attens.net)
-EUROPE: teliacarrier.com (example: 213-248-106-204.customer.teliacarrier.com)

All error messages you may receive after contacting our server can be safely ignored for troubleshooting purposes, and they do NOT indicate a problem with your internet connection.

#3 Use the NSLookup command to check the connection

Q: What does NSLookup do?

A: The NSLOOKUP command can be used to help identify any existing DNS issues.
Your Internet Service Provider's DNS servers may be down or may be providing incorrect information.

Steps to run the NSLOOKUP command:

1. Click Start and then Run

2. Type CMD and press Enter

3. In the command window, type nslookup realm.battle.net > C:\nslookup.txt and press the Enter key. Notethat 'realm' should be replaced by the realm you a having problems reaching (Asia, Europe, USEast, USWest)

example:nslookup Europe.battle.net > C:\nslookup.txt. A file will be created on your C: drive called nslookup.txt that contains your nslookup information.

4. Type exit and press the Enter key to close the command window.

I ran NSLOOKUP, now what do I do?

- Windows users should go to My Computer, C:\ drive, and open the nslookup.txt file.
- What you should see:

- A list of IP addresses for that realm indicates the test is successful.
- Example: "Addresses: 63.241.83.109, 63.241.83.108," etc.

- Problem Indicators:

- If no IP addresses are listed please repeat the steps above a few times in a row. If after several tries, no IP addresses are listed, you may be having a DNS issue.
- If you are receiving specific DNS error or DNS entry messages then you may be having a DNS issue.

For any suggestion , questions, complains about the short guide just send a pm , thanks
