Ok so I'm attempting to wipe out everything on my computer, partition included. My Dell Vostro 1500 laptop came pre-loaded with Windows Vista Home Basic, and quite obviously I hate it. I'm attempting to go down to XP Pro 2.

Enough background information, onto the problem.
In my computer's setup, I disabled everything except the CD drive since that's where the boot disc is (I know this is correct)
The computer boots up from the disc without loading Vista or any other normal system boot options (I know this is correct)
The computer begins loading up all of the drivers and beginning windows files, and once it gets to the end it blue screens (ok, wtf?)

I've been told it's because without the partition I don't have all my drivers, but wouldn't it prompt me for that AFTER I got Windows XP installed?

you should install XP from the bios... Vista has disabled downgrading

edit: I meant boot from CD, and then delete your entire partition (and ALL in case you got more than one)

If you disabled everything excpet your cd, where is this installation going too?

You need your harddrive.



As for the blue screen of death, i had this same problem in the shop, i had to use a non service pack xp disk, then work my way up to sp3.

Turned on the HDD, still bsods. And for the disc, I can't get a non-SP disc. The only ones I have are just different variations of XP that both come with SP2.

You can try resetting your bios to default and seeing if that works.

You can download the iso off an unmentionable site. As long as you have a legal key, you are not breaking any laws by downloading it.



I suggest going back to vista, and just dealing with it untill windows 7 comes out in a year or so.

I am going to get Windows 7, but having Vista won't give me any kind of advantage so that makes no sense.
I'd rather have XP for a year than Vista.

your going to need some custom drivers n crap like that since most of those components only have vista support

i had the same problem but i didnt get bsod i think vista wont let you
downgrade so you have to buy a new harddrive and install windows on there because vista
doesnt have downgrade drives yet quote me if im wrong
