what's your OS ? the BSOD (blue screen of death) depends on the OS you use

that info would help in solving the problem

the error explained:

This Stop message occurs when requested data is not found in memory. The system generates a fault, which normally indicates that the system looks for data in the paging file. In this circumstance, however, the missing data is identified as being located within an area of memory that cannot be paged out to disk. The system faults, but cannot find, the data and is unable to recover. Faulty hardware, a buggy system service, antivirus software, and a corrupted NTFS volume can all generate this type of error.

This Stop message usually occurs after the installation of faulty hardware or in the event of failure of installed hardware (usually related to defective RAM, either main memory, L2 RAM cache, or video RAM). If hardware has been added to the system recently, remove it to see if the error recurs. If existing hardware has failed, remove or replace the faulty component. Run hardware diagnostics supplied by the system manufacturer. For details on these procedures, see the owners manual for your computer. Another cause of this Stop message is the installation of a buggy system service. Disable the service and determine if this resolves the error. If so, contact the manufacturer of the system service about a possible update. If the error occurs during system startup, restart your computer, and press F8 at the character-mode menu that displays the operating system choices. At the resulting Windows 2000 Advanced Options menu, choose the Last Known Good Configuration option. This option is most effective when only one driver or service is added at a time. Antivirus software can also trigger this Stop message. Disable the program and determine if this resolves the error. If it does, contact the manufacturer of the program about a possible update. A corrupted NTFS volume can also generate this Stop message. Run Chkdsk /f /r to detect and repair disk errors. Restart the system before the disk scan begins on a system partition. If the hard disk is SCSI, check for problems between the SCSI controller and the disk. Finally, check the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help pinpoint the device or driver causing the error. Disabling memory caching of the BIOS might also resolve it.

check that your RAM cards are properly inserted in the correct slots(provided you have 2+ and 3 slots)

I have XP OP system. It had vista but i installed xp a while back.

The 2 ram cards it came with have never been touched or replaced. I have 1 or 2 i can try to replace with but they are 256's instead of the 500's....

I had a Ati Visiontek x1300 with 256 ram video card install and tried a gefore 5500 to see if it would fix this problem no luck.

didnt finish reading ur paragraph just wanted to give info quick sorry will finish and take rest of steps. and ask questions thanks

ok doing this

Run Chkdsk /f /r

must restart computer so it can check. be back as soon as its done. ty

did some checking on it and it seems an antivirus program can lead to it too:

Resolving a faulty hardware problem: If hardware has been added to the system recently, remove it to see if the error recurs. If existing hardware has failed, remove or replace the faulty component. You should run hardware diagnostics supplied by the system manufacturer. For details on these procedures, see the owner's manual for your computer.

Resolving a faulty system service problem: Disable the service and confirm that this resolves the error. If so, contact the manufacturer of the system service about a possible update. If the error occurs during system startup, restart your computer, and press F8 at the character-mode menu that displays the operating system choices. At the resulting Windows Advanced Options menu, choose the Last Known Good Configuration option. This option is most effective when only one driver or service is added at a time.

Resolving an antivirus software problem
: Disable the program and confirm that this resolves the error. If it does, contact the manufacturer of the program about a possible update.

Resolving a corrupted NTFS volume problem: Run Chkdsk /f /r to detect and repair disk errors. You must restart the system before the disk scan begins on a system partition. If the hard disk is SCSI, check for problems between the SCSI controller and the disk.

Finally, check the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help pinpoint the device or driver that is causing the error. Disabling memory caching of the BIOS might also

resolve it.

did you happen to notice if the 0x error is always the same?
If the 0x numbers are always the same, you most likely have faulty memory chips

Start > Run > eventvwr.msc > copy and paste some of the recent Errors [Red]

also , did you run a virus scan?
Some malware camouflage themselves as afd.sys(never heard of afabd.sys till now), particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder. Thus check the afd.sys process on your pc whether it is pest or not

for info on some virus scanners read Computer Security

also you may want to check your bios and see whether your bios settings for your VGA card is properly set up or not(AGP overture/aperture size)

Last three system errors.

I do have a afd.sys file located in c:\windows\system32\driver folder. I have many antivire/spyware programs i dont have active. but do run them daily. spybot- search and destroy, ad aware 2008, system tune up 2008, avira.

also you may want to check your bios and see whether your bios settings for your VGA card is properly set up or not(AGP overture/aperture size)

How do I go along to do this sorry. also I tried to rune safemode and I couldnt understand how that would help as I could barely execute anything.

thanks, that narrows it down a bit
you say the error changed to 1000008e after you swapped the video card with a fx5500
this means it's not a video ram faulty error

you mention you have 2 ram cards that were never touched icon_pointr.gif try to remove one of them and see if the error occurs again and if it has the same code

i also saw you use avira..i do also , and my pc has been acting strange ever since( Frozen Throne crashes a lot) and there are records of NAV causing this error code before..so my guess is avira could also be responsible (if the ram test does not solve it, turn off avira and edit the startup setting as not to have avira run at startup)

could you also pls check your system's temperatures?
and what's your PSU (power supply)

unfortunately this is "that kind of error" where you have to eliminate one peripheral after another until you are left with just the motherboard as the last suspect. sad.gif

Ok I unistalled avira because i no longer need it.

I tested running with 1 ram card and than with the other and error still showed up. Where do I check temp at and power supply? Im running a cord from a storm surge power strip from a U.S household and the room temp is about 70 if that matter.

I went back to Ati radeon x1300 video card So back to this error.

it seems the afabd.sys is a game file as i was unable to find it on my OS

so..RAM is not the problem , but no matter what video card you use you still get a BSOD

dunno if i asked before but are all your video drivers up to date? did you add any new hardware devices?
are you by any chance using a RazorX mouse?(sometimes it's a compatibility problem with XP)

will need some more research on it..sry nothing worked so far
