Let me begin by saying it is always better to use a mediator than to trade without one.

However if you choose to trade without a mediator here are some ways to prevent being scammed.

1. Use your brain. If the person joined today and wants you to give first in a 150 fg trade, don't do it.
- No matter how good the deal may seem, remember that if you get scammed you walk away with nothing.

With that out of the way, here is how to "prevent" getting scammed or at least get the person locked if they do scam you.

1. Make sure the trade is always confirmed in a thread, and have that thread "tracked".
- To track a thread, click the "track topic" button at the top of the thread and follow the instructions.
- Never, EVER, do a trade strictly over pm.

2. Make sure you keep a copy of the pm that says the game name/pass the trade is taking place in until after the trade is completed.
- If you are sending them the game//pass, check the " Save a Copy of this Message in my Sent folder" box at the bottom before you send it.

3. Once you enter the game, take a screen shot of both your username@jsp and their username@jsp with the game name showing and a time stamp.
- If you don't know how to take a screen shot click here
- To have the game name showing, hit tab to bring your map up. Map up = game name up.
- To get a time stamp, type /time in game.
- If you didn't get both names up at the same time in the screen shot, or are unsure if you did, hit "m" - it will show you the entire conversation. Take a screen shot of that with the game name.

4. Take a screen shot of both parties confirming the trade (with a time stamp).
- for instance, if the trade was 30 fg for a hr, get a screen shot of one of the people saying that, and the other one agreeing to it.

5. Take a screen shot of the trade window (with a time stamp) with your mouse hovering over the item

6. Once the fg has been sent or the item has been traded, take a screen shot of your inventory (with a time stamp).

While this may not 100% prevent you from being scammed, it is a good way to scare off most scammers. Since using this method I have only been scammed one time, and the guy is now locked.

Reasons why it works:
1. If you refuse to give first to a new person and say you'll get a med, they will leave because they are not going to succeed at scamming you.
2. If a person was thinking about scamming you, knowing that they WILL (because of the screen shots) get locked if they do scam will most likely deter them.
3. If you do get scammed, you will have enough proof to get the person locked for sure.

Hopefully this will help save some of the newbies from getting scammed :)

Let me reiterate that it is always better to use a mediator than to trade without one.
The only way to be 100% certain you will not get scammed is to use a mediator.
